Edward “Longshanks” King of England I, 17th great grandfather

King Edward I “Lingshanks” of England is my 17th great grandfather.

Edward I born on 17/18 June 1239 died on 7 July 1307. He was also called Edward Longshanks as well as the Hammer associated with the Scots, was King of England from 1272 to 1307. Before his accession into the throne, he was commonly described as The Lord Edward. The very first son of Henry III, Edward was involved from an early age in the political intrigues of his father’s reign, which included an outright rebellion because of the English barons. In 1259, he briefly sided with a baronial reform movement, supporting the Provisions of Oxford. After reconciliation together with father, however, he remained loyal through the subsequent armed conflict, known as the Second Barons’ War. After the Battle of Lewes, Edward was hostage towards the rebellious barons, but escaped after a few months and joined the fight against Simon de Montfort. Montfort was defeated at the Battle of Evesham in 1265, and within 2 yrs the rebellion was extinguished. With England pacified, Edward joined the Ninth Crusade towards the Holy Land. The crusade accomplished little, and Edward was on his way home in 1272 when he was informed that his father had died. Making a slow return, he reached England in 1274 and was crowned at Westminster Abbey on 19 August.

The is how King Edward I appears in my genealogical chart. I only went to my 5th great grandfather’s President Thomas Jefferson.

Lord Randolph Henry Spencer-Churchill is my 12th cousin 2 x removed. The ancestor who connect us is Catherine Neville, my 11th great grandmother. Lord Spencer-Churchill was born at 3 Wilton Terrace, Belgravia, London. He was initially independently schooled, and later went to Tabor’s Preparatory School at Cheam, London. In January 1863 he attended Eton College, in which he continued to be until July 1865. He did not stick out either at academic work or sport while at Eton; his contemporaries identify him as a vivacious and somewhat unmanageable young man. In October 1867 he matriculated at Merton College, Oxford. He had a preference for sports, but was also an enthusiastic reader, and acquired a second-class degree in jurisprudence and contemporary history in 1870. In 1871, Churchill and his uncle George Spencer-Churchill were definitely initiated in to the rites of Freemasonry, as later on his son Winston would be. In 1874 he was chosen to Parliament as Conservative member for Woodstock, Oxfordshire defeating George Brodrick, a Fellow, and afterwards Warden, of Merton College. His maiden speech, delivered in his initial session, encouraged kind comments from Harcourt and Disraeli, who published to the Queen of Churchill’s ‘energy and natural flow’.

His profession aspirations concluded when his parents’ age and ill-health required him to depart Cambridge to become their personalized assistant. The concept of proceeding directly into nation-wide politics was also left behind.

It was partially for Hallam’s advantage that Alfred Tennyson acknowledged a peerage in 1884, the year Hallam married Audrey Boyle (after being disappointed in his love for Mary Gladstone, daughter of William Ewart Gladstone). On his father’s dying in 1892, he handed down the title Baron Tennyson, and also the function of established biographer. His Tennyson: a Memoir was published in 1897.

People don’t realize that racist images hurt others, BBC host Danny Baker fired after comparing royal baby Archie to a chimp

Among Britain’s best-known broadcasters has been fired by the BBC on Thursday for a tweet this individual wrote comparing the brand new royal baby to a chimp.

Danny Baker, 61, tweeted out a picture of a chimp within a suit holding fingers with a smartly dressed few, writing, “Royal baby simply leaves hospital.”

It caused immediate outrage due to the obvious racist undertones against Duchess of Sussex Meghan, 37, whose mother, Doria Ragland, is African American.

Baker admitted it turned out a “stupid unthinking gag” – but insisted it had been an innocent dig in the royals that has been being wildly misinterpreted.

“Never occurred if you ask me because, well, thoughts not really diseased,” he wrote. “Quickly as those sufficient to point away its likely connotations got in contact, down it arrived. And that’s it.”

He later on called the backfired joke “grotesque” and “a massive mistake,” sending a note to Harry and Meghan’s newborn Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, “Here’s to ya Archie, Sorry mate.”

His apologies weren’t sufficient, however, with him soon tweeting, “Just got fired.”

Baker remained defiant, damning the decision to fire him because the “masterclass of pompous faux-gravity”

Comment from the Author: Royal baby Archie was born on Monday, to the proud parents Meghan and Prince Harry publicly debuting him Wednesday. Such images or comments should not not be made by public officials. It is is not a joke. These young people are enjoying their baby as all parents should. For one jerk, to take away the happiness of others and then give a cheap apology is appalling. He is a grown man, and he knows better. This is not a slip of the tongue. After saying that “Welcome Prince Archie to world and to the family.”
