Horace Mann is my 13th cousin 5x removed. That ancestor whom we share is Margaret Pilkington (1383 – 1418), my 17th great grand mother.

Horace Mann served in the Massachusetts State legislature (1827–1837). In 1848, after public service as Secretary of the Massachusetts State Board of Education, Mann was elected to the United States House of Representatives (1848–1853). From September 1852 to his death, he served as President of Antioch College.
